My goal is to get a 4 on the APUSH exam. I don’t have a good teacher, he doesn’t give hard tests and he curves them greatly. We never have homework and have never even looked at a practice exam. I have read the first 10 chapters in American Pagent and quite a few chapters in AMSCO, though I only remember the major points. Would I be okay reading Crash Course all the way through twice and taking a few practice exams? I don’t know how you guys on here can read the whole AMSCO through twice. It is ridiculously long, and I have no time. Please give your suggestions, thanks!

I think if you have a pretty good basic knowledge about everything, that would probably get you a 4. However, the crash course doesn’t give a lot of explanation, so you might want to buy a mid-sized review book too, like PR or 5 steps to a 5

Okay thanks I’ll look into those.

Probably it would be enough for a four, but when it comes to the FRQ’s and DBQ’s, it kinda leaves you struggling. It’s excellent for multiple choice. Perhaps you could just supplement AMSCO with CC? Like, gloss over the AMSCO chapters, take notes here and there, and then follow up with the corresponding CC chapter. That would guarantee you a 5, especially with practice tests and lots of essay practice. Just my two cents.

Thanks for your opinion. That is a good idea, the only problem is that I have no time since I am in 5 ap classes. I will try to do that if I have time. I just really hate the AMSCO though because it is so long. I guess it’s my own fault though for waiting till march to cram…

For me and all my other friends who recieved 5’s, we definetely thought that the REA book for APUSH was the most helpful. I’d suggest just reading through that once and taking a practice AP test. Depending on where you are then you could consider reading more.

Sorry, I guess I pressed the “post reply” too many times lol. Yeah, read through CC as much as possible and make sure you’re good with the key terms, maybe take practice tests whenever possible. I know what you mean about having no time :-/
You should be good though, with CC for a 4.

I’d recommend finishing either AMSCO or American Pageant (if not both), then reading Crash Course when it gets closer to the exam (i.e. the few days leading up to the exam).

only read crash course if you’ve learned the material before! i remember reading crash course a few minutes before the exam, and during the exam i remembered what i had read, but it just wasnt enough- it doesnt in depth as much as you need for the ap exam.

the crash course book is to just bring old stuff back to the surface, so i agree with them ^, to read your textbook and AMSCO. good luck! :)
