I am 20 years old right now and I am going to University in the fall but I will be entering as a freshman. I was in the Marines for about a year but I got out so I decided to go to community college and then transfer. Would it be weird to dorm with freshman? I am nervous only because I don't want to be seen as the "weird older" person.

No. I roomed with someone who was 21 (she was not a freshman though). Lots of people in frats/ sororities room with people a lot older than them. I don’t think you should be denied your freshman experience of a freshman dorm just because your age. Also, if you think they are mean to you, just transfer to upperclassmen or something.

Personally, I don’t think it would be weird. If you can choose your roomie before school, you could try to get someone closer to your age.

At my school there were a number of 20 and 21 year olds that lived with the freshmen (the 21 year olds tended to be South Koreans who served a stint in the Army before going abroad for college). While there may be some maturity issues, I don’t believe it’s “weird” in the same way that a 26 year old living with freshmen would be.

Thanks. I think I’ll be good haha

You might look into transfer dorms so you have people who are older but are there for the first as well.

When I attended college we had someone in their mid 30s in the dorms and several in their mid 20s. They chose to stay in the freshmen dorms the following year. It think you will be fine.

I would not feel comfortable with a 30 something living in the dorms. That’s just weird.

I lived with a 17 year old freshman when I was 20. It was okay, but I would not have chosen that arrangement if I’d had a choice. Her immaturity began to wear on me after a few months. And when we met on move in day, her parents looked at me like they thought I’d eat her or something.

If anything about the arrangement was weird, it was probably that I was choosing to live in the dorms at that age at all. Most didn’t at my school. But it’s not as though anyone cared where I lived.
