Would I Even Be Considered????

Indian Male from Top 1% Nationally Ranked High school in Ohio

GPA: 3.2 UW/ 3.44 W (This part is very low but I've taken a rigorous course load so hopefully that will help) Top 25% of class

SAT: 1330/1600, 1960/2400 (Retaking in October, aiming for 2000+)

Course load:
Honors Sophomore English, AP Junior English (5), AP Senior English
Honors Chemistry, AP Biology (3), AP Physics C
Honors Alegbra II, Honors Pre-Calculus, AP Statistics (5)
AP European History (4), AP US History (5), AP Economics (Micro and Macro)

EC's: I don't feel like typing them all out but I know they are at least average to above average for most colleges.
I think I'm a pretty good writer so if it comes down to it I can write a creative, original essay.

Schools I'm Interested In for Engineering:
Georgia Tech
Virginia Tech
Wright State
Case Western

suggest some others that you think I may be a match for. Thanks!

apply Berkeley undecided and UT Austin, also Rice might be a stretch but I think you have a chance!

Less than 3% of students had a GPA below yours in admission. Also your SAT score is about 100 points below average. Those two things don’t bode well.

Obviously you’ll be considered for admission, so I would still apply, but I wouldn’t get your hopes too high. It’s a reach school for you.

I don’t know much about Case or Wright State, but I think you’ll fare much better at VT than GT. I wouldn’t listen to the above poster about Rice, Berkeley OOS, or UT-Austin OOS. Good luck.

thanks for the input. Good to hear some perspective

I don’t know. UT stats are about on par with GT’s. I believe he will have a good chance at UT by declaring an easier major and switching up or doing some other sort of convolved trickery.

UT OOS and UT in-state are very different.

If you’re accepted to UT non-engineering, and you want to switch to engineering, you have to apply to the engineering school, which can deny your application. Also, because UT-Austin is so full of guaranteed admissions in-state student, many very popular engineering majors (like ME and EE) are virtually impossible to transfer into.

Ok thanks hopefully I can increase my SAT for those other schools

Oh, I see. Yeah, in TX UT is considered easy to get into (aka for being valedictorian in my school, my freshman year is free, and for graduating IB, I will get 24 hours minimum credit).
