If my SAT scores are 800M/670R/700W
SAT IIs: 800 MI/800Chem/800Spanish

Hispanic, and really poor.

Ranked in top 15%; highly competitive school, 95/100 WA; 7 APs

A Few awards, including NHRP (Scholar Finalist)

But no extracurriculars.

What would you say?

And if you need more specifics let me know.

Your stats are definitely admittable. I don't know what NHRP is, but the harder it is to get...the more it will help your chances. Having no extracurriculars will hurt you a lot, but being hispanic I think you have about as good a chance as any other applicant. Just depends on what they want.

Work on your EC's , but your stats look good.

NHRP = National Hispanic Recognition Program (the PSAT score thingy)

I'm a senior this year, so yeah, I can't work on my ECs much. :/

Your scores are great, but having no extracurricular is devastating. Harvard is looking for students who will add on to its extracurricular life and its surrounding community. Don't really know what to tell you...does your high school weight grades btw?

yes it's weighted, my unweighted is only about 89.4/100 :'(

bummppp....do more opinions!?!? :/

I'm also a National Hispanic Scholar. It's a good award, but I don't think it'll tremendously boost your chances.

You're scores are great. You're unweighted gpa isn't that great... Having no ECs will really hurt you... (btw, do you really have no ECs? If you have a good reason, you might want to explain this to colleges)

Apply though... you can't get in unless you apply.

If you have to work after school everyday to support your family, then it might make up for no ECs.

Please Someone I'm Desperate

I would still apply, even though your lack of ec's will hurt. one interesting aspect of your application is that you are hispanic and took the Spanish SAT II's. Don't know if much about URM's either. I would say that you have a low, low chance of being admitted especially with your GPA. just write very good essays and hope. thats all anyone can do

engineering101, want do you want us to say? I think the consensus is your lack of ECs will hurt you a lot... UNLESS you have a good reason for this. You still haven't told us if there is a reason.

Your scores are awesome, and your URM status will help, but Harvard gets to choose the cream of the crop-- they can choose well-rounded applicants who have high scores, good grades AND were actively involved in extracurricular activities.

If you have killer essays, great recommendations, and really show off your strengths in your application, you'll definitely stand a chance.

Just apply. And have a good back-up plan (as should anyone applying to Harvard). Good luck!

yea you have a chance. i had a 630 writing, and 630 math IC, i still got in

oh heck, just apply
what do you have to lose besides $65?

I'd get a fee waiver, so I have nothing to lose : )

even more reason to apply!

btw, do you hold a job or something? b/c H might appreciate that you spend your time working since you are poor.
