Would I get into CSULB or UCR?

I am a rising senior, currently have a 2.7 GPA. I live in the South, but I lived in CA for a long time and hoping to move back for college. I am only interested in out of state colleges in California. Until now, I have switched high schools 3 times due to my dad's job. I was very lazy and didn't try in my school work. I spent most of my time adjusting to my new environment, which is no excuse. I have failed many courses, about 4 in my high school years. bascially every year.. but I always have made the course up during the following summer with A's and B's. If I study and achieve all A's by the end of 1st semester of senior year, I will have about a 2.8 GPA. I also need to make up 2 course online during my 2nd semester since I will not have time during 1st semester due to SAT's and such. But after all A's of 2nd semester and making up those 2 failed classes from previous years with A's, I will graduate with a solid 3.0. Sadly, colleges will not be able to see the 3.0 unless I apply during the spring, but I don't want to take a risk of applying late. I currently have about 1800 SAT score but by the October/November/December I am positive I will break 2000 or even higher possibly. Would I get into CSULB or UCR with a 2.8,2.9,or 3.0 GPA and a 2000 score on the SAT? I never took any honors or AP classes except for a semester of APUSH on my Junior year. I also had my worst grades in my Junior year, which is just unfortunate. I had to drop the class because I had a personal reason and could not attend school reguarly during my junior year. Nor do I have much extracurricular activities in school. I have some activities outside of school though, like church for example.

For UCR, I will also have a great essay in preparation.
I wish I can get into UCI but I don't think I even have a slight chance?

Please reply your opinion, thank you so much.

Unfortunately, to even apply to a UC from out of state you need a minimum GPA of 3.4. LB may be a possibility, but the cost for an OOS student-about $30K-is almost as much as many private colleges that provide a more full college experience.

You will have no difficulty getting into CSULB. Except for Cal Poly SLO, all of the CSUs have extremely low admission standards. If you have a HS GPA of 2.0 or better you are as good as in.

^Standards noted about are for CA residents only and even then CSULB is impacted so it’s standards are higher.

CSULB uses an eligibility index score and for out-of-state it is higher. You can see the table at [Eligibility Index for Non-Residents](http://www.csulb.edu/depts/enrollment/admissions/nonreselig.html) Additionally, you need to make sure you have complete the 15-unit pattern with a C or better in each course. You can see it listed at [College Preparatory Subject Requirements](First-Time, First-Year Student CSULB Index | California State University Long Beach)

If you go to the Long Beach section here on cc and read the thread about who got in you’ll see two or three out of state students and their scores. If I remember correctly, they also noted what additional information they had to supply. One key piece is being aware of which majors are impacted. A good place to see all this is on the CSU Mentor website.

Well, it appears I was wrong about your chances of getting into CSULB. According to the index for admission as a non-resident, with a GPA of 2.7 you would need a SAT combined score of 1350. Since the CSUs do not count the Writing section of the SAT you would need a 1350 out of 1600 or an average of 675 for both the CR and Math sections. Since you have an 1,800/2400 on the SAT that works out to an average score of 600 on each section or 1200 for the CR and Math combined assuming you did equally well on all three sections. It appears you do need to increase your SAT scores or GPA or both to be admitted to to CSULB. I am sorry for the misinformation, I am only familiar with CSU Sacramento which is not impacted.
