I applied to NYU CAS as a senior last year and was rejected. I was pretty average and applied as an undecided major which is why I think I was rejected. My GPA was 3.6, my SATs were 1720 and although I was in the top 18% of my class, I was 44/244.

However, I now know what I want to do but the majors at my current school are too rigid to study exactly what I want so I want to apply to Gallatin as a transfer student and create my own concentration. Even though I was undecided last year, I have a clear plan of what I would study at Gallatin. If I can get my SAT scores up, be as involved as possible at my current college and maintain a great GPA here, do you think I'd stand a chance to be accepted for Fall 2014?

It's been a dream of mine to go to NYU and the job that I want to do most of the companies for it are based in New York so I really want to be there not only to be in New York but to be surrounded by companies that I will later work for.

I really need input on this, all answers are appreciated.

Right now, I go to Emerson. And it’s a great school, it really is, but I want to work for a magazine and I don’t just want to know how to write for it, I want to study all aspects of it and Gallatin has a lot of seminars that would set me up for it, and I’d be able to take classes at NYU’s other schools. Anyway, I’m noticing here that if I majored in journalism, it’d be more about the news and if I majored in writing, it’s more geared towards books and literature. Each of those majors have some classes that relate to what I want to do but a lot of the requirements include things I just wouldn’t use. Also, I want to be able to intern at different magazine companies and almost all of them are in New York and my academic adviser has already told me it’s not possible to do during the academic year and I need experience.

Sorry, I know that was a bit of a rant, it’s just that I know my school is a good school, I just don’t feel it here and really want to be at NYU studying exactly what I want.
