Hey I am a high school senior and I'm looking to get into umass amherst. I live in Massachusetts and I'm also an asian-america(if that makes a difference). My cumlative gpa is a 3.534 and my SAT score is a 1620. Both my brother and sister went to umass. I am also going to take the ACT soon and I hope i can get a 25 on it. Would I be able to get into Umass?

It doesn’t look like the most challenging school.

If you wanted more help, you should really list Extracurriculars, volunteer hours, work experience, etc.

thanks for replying. In school i do key club and out of school I coach youth basketball and soccer. I volunteer at my parents buddhist temple in Boston and I graduated from Chinese School that meets every Sunday. And I work at a library.

Then the real issue is most likely SAT scores. A breakdown on classes would be pretty helpful as well (AP’s, Honors, etc).

UMass Amherst does not take Writing Scores, so if you were strong in math and reading (say 600 both), and 400 in writing, then you have a decent SAT. On the other hand, it would still probably we wise to try and aim for a high 1800. Best of luck

My highest reading was a 510 and math was a 550. If I can get a 25-26 on the ACT would that be better

Im not very familiar with the ACT, so I cannot say. I do think that your SAT scores for math and reading are close enough so that if you worked hard until October you can probably increase your scores to what UMass-Amherst wants.

Get those SAT’s into the 600’s for a better shot.
