Hi, I’m just looking for some honest advice. I’ve read all the stats a billion times but I just want to hear some other peoples opinions. Thanks.
Out of state for both
GPA: 3.89
SAT: 1950
110+ hours of volunteer work
President of my school
Student council (grades 10, 11, and 12)
Lacrosse
Ronald’s Rescue, Model UN, Academic Bowl
Captain of Mock trial team
National Honors Society
Oh and I forgot I am top 20-25% of my class.
GPA and ECs are good, but SAT is a bit low. Out-of-state admits to those schools usually have scores above the 75th percentile, so aim for around a 2100-2200 or take the ACT.
Get your SAT up and if you can raise your rank before admissions do so because UVA AND UNC (Chapel Hill I’m guessing, there are multiple) they LOVE in-state students. Chapell hill requires that 82% of its class is filled by in state students. The competition for OOS is TOUGH.
Thank you guys for your input! I moved my thread to the chance page.
With current scores admission to either would be unlikely.
Not only do the current scores hurt you, but I’m not agreeing with those saying that you have “excellent EC’s.” Student Body President is a big deal, but that has to be combined with a few other leadership positions to make it a pool of “excellent EC’s.” The captain of Mock Trial is the only other leadership position. With these current specifications, I don’t think you have more than a 10% chance of admittance to either. Unless you write killer essays and get great recommendations, I wouldn’t get my hopes up. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Hope I helped.
Is your GPA weighted or unweighted? If it’s a 3.89 unweighted, then how are you only in the top 25% of your class? Does your school have a lot of grade inflation or something? Anyways, I’d say your chances are slim for these schools if I’m going to be totally honest. Your SAT needs to be significantly higher to have a good chance at UNC or UVA.
