uh wow. you’re like amazing.

Thanks for your comment. Any more opinion ?

Honestly, my profile is not that all amazing (I have already got rejected by Bowdoin and Connecticut College). I am planning to reapply next year since my chance of getting in the 6 remaining schools that I applied to is really slim.

Any other suggestion for me ?

Which type of students Davidson look for ?

I’d say you have an okay chance. Davidson is very big on the kind of person you are and the amount of interest you’ve put into the school. They look for well-rounded students who are intellectually driven and active in their community.

It seems like your GPA and EC’s are really fantastic, but Davidson doesn’t always admit people with incredible stats. My suggestion to you is to be as creative as possible when deciding an essay topic- my stats were less than spectacular, but my essay kicked butt, if I do say so myself :stuck_out_tongue: After you decide on a topic that will really stand out, go through as many drafts as you possibly can. I started working on mine during the summer and finished it in September. Since Davidson is such a writing-focused school, having an awesome essay can really have an impact on an application.

Thank you so much for your advice. I am planning to write about my service trip to Costa Rica. Do you think it is a good topic to write about ? Or is it too common ?

Do you guys know much about the strength of Biology department or Economics department at Davidson ?

hm… that definitely has the potential to be a really good topic. If you want to use if for your main essay for the common app, then I would suggest not doing a broad overview of the trip and talking about how much of an eye opener it was- although I know from personal experience that it actually is- but I imagine the admissions office gets plenty of essays like that. What could make that essay really work though, is if you focused the essay just on one experience from the trip… one snapshot that you could really go into detail with. You’ve just got to keep in mind that they’re reading thousands of essays, and you have to try to make your essay as memorable as possible.

Something else to keep in mind… the Davidson application has several supplemental essays. I did a service trip as well (in China) and my experience there actually worked perfectly for one of the supplemental essay prompts. I’m not sure if they use all the same prompts year after year, but a service trip essay might work better for one of the prompt essays rather than the ‘topic of your choice’ essay. That way, if you use a service trip essay for one of the supplemental questions, you have the chance to be really creative with your topic for the main common app essay.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. I will definitely keep that in mind. For some reasons, I was thinking that service trip is such a generic topic. However, I think if I choose what to write about and how to write about it, it will have the potential to be a good topic.

With the new endowment for international students, do you think I will have a better shot ?
