Would I have an equal chance

at being accepted to the Arts school if i applied directly as opposed to applying to Marshall and getting deferred?

If you didn't get into Marshall, you'd get into Letters, Arts, and Sciences (wait, is that what "arts school" refers to?). It's the same thing, really.

You aren't talking about Roski school or Arts right? because its really easy to get into Roski

Oh yeah, we have an actual arts school. Whoops.

Oh, my apologies

I meant the LAS school.

In the same vein, I have tenatively put down PolySci as my major with (my second choice being Business) over Business because my Maths scores are low. Once/if I get in, is it easy to switch to Marshall?

Yes it is, as long as you meet the minimum requirements.

<a href="http://www.marshall.usc.edu/web/Undergraduate.cfm?doc_id=3444%5B/url%5D">http://www.marshall.usc.edu/web/Undergraduate.cfm?doc_id=3444</a></p>

Thanks margaritas, but would that mean I would graduate after four years?

You can start taking the required classes for Marshall even when you're not a business major so that you'd be on the same page with other business majors when you transfer.

Thanks again.
