Would it be a mistake to go to a small school like Ramapo for Accounting?

So, I got accepted to RBS Newark, haven't heard from NB yet. But assuming I get in would it be a huge mistake to go to Ramapo instead? I really like the feel there, and I like that it's a really small school. But I worry that it would be bad for my career since RBS is actually ranked while Ramapo is relatively unknown and only recently got AACSB accredited. I feel that I'd probably be able to keep a higher GPA at Ramapo, and I could be mistaken but it seems that for accounting the school doesn't make as huge a difference as it does for other majors.

Thanks.

No, I don’t think it would be a mistake. You know yourself best.

I see that you are transferring from another college with a good GPA. See where you get in before you make a final decision.

RBS is actually situated on the Livingston campus so the huge factor would go down a bit if you entered as a junior because most of your classes would be on one campus.

I think it’s better to excel at Ramapo than to struggle at Rutgers if you think you would be unhappy there.

Rutgers has a better reputation than Ramapo and better resources and internship opportunities. The accounting program at Rutgers is ranked very highly and recruiters love the graduates. My son is planning to major in accounting and got accepted to both but is choosing Rutgers because of their accounting program (and their sports). Ramapo is a smaller school and companies around the area are familiar with it so I don’t think it will be a mistake to go there. Go where you are going to be happy and to where it makes sense to you. Good luck!!

Thanks for the replies guys, I visited the Newark campus today and wasn’t a big fan. I guess I have nothing left to do now but wait to hear from New Brunswick. Right now im leaning towards Ramapo, but I still have plenty of time to really think things over.

My son is a sophomore Accounting major at Rutgers and the program is extremely competitive. Even though he is taking an Accounting course that all Business majors must take, he had to take a specific section that is only for Accounting majors. The professor is only allowed to give out 12% of A’s to the class no matter what the grades are. He is doing well but he puts a lot of time in. I did hear that the Big 4 firms do recruit there so hopefully the hard work will pay off but it can be extremely stressful.

Thanks for the responses all. I unfortunately ended up not getting into New Brunswick’s business school

Now I have to pick between Ramapo and RU Newark and I’m having a very hard time debating between the two of them. I don’t really like the vibe of the campus at Newark, particularly how much of a commuter school (though ramapo is also a suitcase school I feel its different) and the parking situation seems extremely frustrating as well. But Rutgers is rutgers and I can’t help but think my job prospects would be much better there than a relatively unknown school like Ramapo.

Don’t underestimate Ramapo. It is a great school with beautiful campus. It has a campus feel and the professors are great. They just got the highest accreditation(AACSB). THey get tons of money from donators. They just launched their Accelerated MBA program which is suppose to be really good. I don’t know much about Rutgers Newark so I cannot comment.
