Would it be appropriate?

Do you think it would be appropriate to write an application essay about growing up as an atheist in a heavily religious community? I think it could help me show how I could add diversity to the campus. I am applying to several schools with religious affiliations, but they say they do not discriminate based on religious preferences. I would appreciate your thoughts on the situation.

Thanks!

Have someone read it. It has the potential to be very trite, to be frank. However, if well done, it has great potential too.

As for schools w/religious affiliations, what do you mean? Like Yale which was founded by ministers long ago? or Notre Dame with its current vibrant religious culture? Then you won't be a good fit.
