Deferred from Georgetown, I originally applied EA as an Econ major (and wrote one of my essays all about it), but I fear that may have pigeon-holed me to some degree. I was planning on sending an updated resume and explaining that I am now interested in 2 of their other major/minors and wondering how feasible it would be to double major or major & 2 minors, also mentioning that I will be entering with AP credits, yet I want to study abroad.

My parents think this is "schizo" and that I should just send my updated activities and wait to ask these questions AFTER I'm admitted and attending school there. Is this that crazy? My questions are sincere and I thought it would help my application.

I assume you applied to the College (as opposed to the SFS or MSB), right? In that case I might mention that I was considering “exploring/pursuing my interests in ________”. If the other interests of yours are related to econ, you could describe how you’re intrigued by the possibilities presented by the intersection of the two fields and how you think attending Georgetown offers a unique opportunity to pursue them. It’s all about the way you write it and how you integrate the new information (including anything you’re going to tell them) about yourself into what they already know.

Good luck - maybe I’ll see you on the Hilltop next year!

EDIT: I don’t suggest asking questions in your application, but you should either search for the answers online or ask the university (probably the admissions office) if they provide the things you’re looking for. That way you can also more effectively write the information about how you’re interested in pursuing those other fields.

I think its a good idea that you are interesting in double - majoring. I am also looking into it as well. Plus it will look good on your application when applying for a job. It takes a lot of time and thinking about it whether or not if you can handle the majority of the course work for 2 majors.

Sell yourself by providing (as appropriate) updates regarding grades, awards, new research activities/papers if relevant, significant EC updates if relevant, an additional recommendation letter if appropriate, scholarships that you may have won if relevant, a summer employment opportunity that has come through., etc. The update is all about how you are a stronger candidate that you were 6 months ago. Stay on course. Provide measurable additional information to admissions. What you’re proposing to do in the update is a distraction from the perspective of getting admitted.

It’s very feasible to double major or major and double minor at Georgetown. However (unless your thinking of a BS science/math degree) all college applicants come in as “undecided” and only declare their major sophomore year. Once you get here, you can major in anything you want. In your update, perhaps mention that you’re not only interested in Econ but also exploring other interests, but I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

I do not think it matters to much unless you had an amazing experience that will really strengthen your application that explains the double major but i would keep reminding GT that you were defered and are still interested
