Would it be bad to write about the same topic in a supplemental essay as my common app essay?

I have a topic from my “The lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success. Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?” essay on the common app the fits perfectly with Rice’s supplemental essay, The quality of Rice’s academic life and the Residential College System are heavily influenced by the unique life experiences and cultural traditions each student brings. What personal perspective do you feel that you will contribute to life at Rice? (500 word limit)

but should i choose a different topic bc i already covered this topic?

I’m sure it is fine. But you have to keep in mind that the supplemental essays are more geared toward the school so the wording would be directed to Rice specifically. Also, an experience is different than a perspective, which is much broader.
