My son wants to visit Pomona in October - not an overnight visit - and I'm wondering if he would get a realistic picture of campus on a Friday. Are there any Friday morning classes, and does anyone attend them?

Also, any advice on travel between LAX or USC and Pomona, especially public transportation? Does the train from Pomona put you anywhere near either LAX or the USC area?

Thanks in advance!

There are classes on Friday morning and labs in the afternoon. The classes that meet on Friday mornings last an hour, and yes, if they're classes for freshmen, they'll be attended. A good one is Prof. Samuel Y-a-m-a-s-h-i-t-a's class (otherwise you'll get asterisks), Asian Traditions. He's an excellent professor to observe.

The Metrolink train from Pomona ends at Union Station that is close to neither LAX nor USC; however, your S could take either a cab or the bus to USC from there. I believe there's also a bus to LAX as well.

There are plenty of classes held on Friday, especially in the morning. Friday afternoon classes are less common, but I'm sure your son could find a few classes to observe in the afternoon.

As for getting to Pomona from LAX, the Flyaway bus service takes passengers between LAX and Union Station every half hour. From Union Station, the San Bernardino Metrolink train drops you off about 2 blocks away from Pomona's campus. As for USC, there is some information here:

Hope this helps.
