would like you basically have a zero chance of getting in because the admissions people dont like business school kids... or would you have a higher change because you are transferring from a school that is on par instead like from CAS to tisch

I’d imagine that it would depend a lot on which part of Tisch you’d like to transfer to. For example, the theatre part has a very specific system that makes transferring difficult, but I don’t know about other departments. I know someone who transferred from one Tisch department to photography. I don’t think it would be incredibly easy from Stern, though.

Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful!

At the open house, they were saying that it is much easier to transfer from a specialized school back into CAS, and then back out than directly from one school to another. So that may be what you’ll have to do.

I don’t think any Tisch professor or administrator has a “problem” with Stern students. Why would they? There is not a competition between schools at NYU like you seem to imagine. As a matter of fact, there are minors that are interdisciplinary between Tisch, Stern and Steinhardt. And many Tisch classes and minors are open to students of other schools and vice versa.

Also what makes Stern “on par” with Tisch while you insinuate that the other schools (Steinhardt, CAS and Gallatin) are not? Do you think NYU would function as a whole if that was the mentality of the administration? Not everything is seen through the eyes of rankings. As a matter of fact I would see Steinhardt and Tisch as having more in common since many of their programs use auditions/ portfolios (to measure talent) as well as academics to determine admissions.

Many Tisch majors do have an audtion compontent, though. Not sure what the process is to apply to transfer to those.

Are you a current NYU student? I’d be surprised if you were at NYU currently and still have your attitude towards the different schools.
