Would it be OK to ask this professor for a letter of recommendation?

I completed my undergrad 4 years ago. I had this one class with a professor that I really liked. I also took part in a study abroad program my junior year which he organized. I spent a week with him in England with about 10 other students. I did well in his class and the study abroad program. About 3 years ago I was planning on going to law school and I asked him for a letter of recommendation and he agreed to write me one. Well I never went to law school as I realized it wasn't for me and now I am applying to graduate programs and need letters of recommendation. It has been 3 years since I spoke to this professor. He actually runs into my father on occassion (business meetings) and asks about me so I think he will remember me. But it has been 3 years since I had any interaction with him. Is this too long or should I ask him for a letter of recommendation?
