would it be okay if my essay is longer than the requirement?

for cornell supplement essays, they tell you to limit it to 250 words. Both of my essays are 300 words long, and I really don't want to cut it down. Cornellians in this board, former applicant, or current applicant, do you think it will be okay? or should I try reducing my essay??
Thanks.

Should be ok.

i bet they have better things to do than get ****ed off at the extra 50 words they have to read

but if possible try and follow the directions as best you can. every word you can take out without losing meaning or quality SHOULD go--it will in fact make your essay more potent. however, it is true that the requirements are there to give students an idea of how much to write, not to **** students off. If you're over, it's not going to adversely affect your app, but it should only be by a few lines.

I was advised that you shouldn't go over 20 for the common app essay and shouldn't go over 10 for the Cornell specific essays.

The general rule of thumb is dont go above or below 10% of the word limit. That would mean for the common at it would be 550 words. For cornell, it would be 275.
