When you posted this in March you were advised to attend the affordable school you were accepted to even if it’s not your dream school. The tuition at George Mason is $11k/year. You could pay that with the ~$5800 Pell grant and ~$5500 federal student loan. Your net price for Indiana is $34k/year. I don’t see any way that you’re going to be able to close that gap. Can you contact George Mason and see if you can still get in? If not, maybe you could take a gap year and reapply. Is there a cc nearby that you could attend for two years before transferring to George Mason? If so, another option is to start there and transfer.
Commute to NVCC for at least the next 2 semesters, agree ^^ you should be able to cover that with Pell and fed student loan. Their articulation agreement with GMU (and others) is solid. See if you can afford to transfer for sophomore year, if not get your AA and transfer then. In addition to consulting with your NVCC advisor, I’d strongly advise checking in with a GMU academic advisor and make sure you’re on track for their programs . Know several students who got different/better advice from GMU than NVCC, saving them time and $$.
I know this isn’t your preferred path but there are so many really really solid students in DC Metro who go this route and are very successful. IMHO GMU gets a bad rap from area students (including my son) because most want to get away from where they grew up. Understandable. But it’s a great school with a lot more going on on campus than you think - until you get there and see if for yourself. Students get good internship and jobs out of there in a variety of fields, this school and the profs have connections. Get stellar grades in CC and you should be set.
