Hey guys, I live in Georgia and I plan on majoring in CS at Georgia Tech. What I was wondering is if it is realistic/ a good plan to do my undergrad/get a BS at GA Tech, then transfer to UC Berkeley for a MS. Would the out of state cost be worth more than the difference in the quality of the CS program (Since Cal is ranked better than GA Tech) or would it not matter at all? Also, if it is a good Idea, what suggestions would you give?

You will not be transferring. You will be APPLYING to graduate school. Graduate school admission is very different from undergraduate admission. You can read more about it in the Grad School Forum. Whether or not you would need to pay OOS fees, or even have to pay tuition at all, would depend on a number of variables. For example, you might be awarded a teaching or research assistantship as well as a waiver of OOS surcharges on tuition. Not to mention that if you are working, you may be able to get your employer to help pay for your M.S.

Right now you need to be concentrating on your B.S. program. Do your best to keep your grades up, get to know the profs. who will be writing your letters of recommendation for grad school, take advantage of any research opportunities, internships, and jobs that relate to your long-term career goals. Wait until your third year of college to think hard about your grad school options.
