After taking a look at the post of that followyourheart person, I've realized that I too have a similar question. I'm already self-studying 4 AP exams( two of them I take the honors class so they're semi-self-study)and I've decided to take up another AP exam(AP Statistics). However, I feel it may be too late at this point to start self-studying Stats? Advice from those who may have started self-studying AP Stats this late?or later? and still passed or not passed?

I am planning on taking the AP Statistics exam this may. I started taking the course at a university in january. It is not difficult, per se, but it can be time consuming to learn all the definitions and then all the math. I am not sure what you’re aiming to get on your exams. I would say getting 4 4/5s is better than getting 5 poor grades. Aim to do well on the exams you are already taking, preparing for 4 exams in two months is hard enough, don’t add more unless you have that much time on your hands.

I wouldn’t. I’m in AP Stat and we’re in the last major chapter, inference and hypothesis testing. It isn’t so straightforward. I have been fine for most of the class exams (questions from old AP Exams) though by cramming material the day before, but it doesn’t work for hypothesis testing, which is a big part of the AP Exam. There are a lot of definitions to remember, and it is very easy to forgot the old stuff you learned. If you want to try, go for it. But don’t overload yourself if you already have too much going on.

I’m also in a similar dilemma. I’m in AP Calc AB and I want to take the BC Exam, mostly because we are going so slowly in Calc AB that I always want to move ahead and learn more. I’ve studied between 1/3 to 1/2 of the extra topics and I still feel like I don’t have enough time before the AP Exam, so I still can’t make up my mind whether to take the AB or BC test. Bleh.

Not too late. Certainly possible. I didn’t start self studying it in earnest till about now/maybe later. I had 6 other AP tests, 3 of them self studies [not including Stats].
Get the Cliffs notes book, read it thoroughly, and do all the practice stuff in it [including the practice AP tests.]

Also @Jimbo, I recommend taking the BC test. There is only around 1 extra unit (Sequences + Infinite + Taylor Series, etc) and possibly Integration by Parts + Partial Fractions + Parametric/Polar integration, if you don’t do those in AB. Still, it’s really not a whole lot of material, and you need only 60% on the BC test for a 5, so technically if you knew only AB stuff [maybe some really basic BC stuff too] and scored 100% on that you would probably get a 5.

No, it’s not too late if you have enough time to study for it. I’m taking it as a class, and it’s been a joke all year long. The material is easy, and I don’t have any trouble with any concepts. My teacher uses tests from the makers of the AP exam.

But if you don’t have any free time already, don’t overload yourself with another AP.

I’m currently taking the class and I find the material to be extremely manageable. I don’t think it’s too late at all. Just be warned, stats is very frustrating in terms of answering in context, definitions, language usage, etc. There’s not very much “hard math.”
