I know someone who didn’t get into their school as a transfer. Would it be worth taking a gap year and apply for next fall?
What, if anything, would make it more likely to get accepted after the gap year? What school is he/she transferring from/to? Did he/she apply for transfer to other schools?
Are you currently at a two year school and out of classes or a a different four year school?
I have the same concern as @collegebownd. If you apply again with the same stats and the same recommendations, you can expect to get the same results.
If you are already at a four year university, in most cases you would be better off finishing up where you are. Also, try to take full advantage of every opportunity where you are. Getting top grades and participating in good research opportunities are going to be more important than which university you are attending.
If you have completed an associates degree at a community college, you might have little choice other than to work for a year and apply to university again. However, in this case you should expand the schools you apply to and pick some that are more likely for admissions.
Also, the details will vary a lot depending upon your specific circumstances. More information would be helpful.
Finally, if this student is you or your child, then you probably need to say so. If it is just “someone you know”, then someone will probably shut down the thread.
