would it hurt me if I declare political science at yale?

Would it hurt me to declare political science, or should I put undecided first? I fear that polsci may be overrepresented at Yale, and may hurt my chances at admissions.

but i dunno if it'd be a advantage or disadvantage if i do declare. I have some stuff related to that - member of parliament attachments, parliament visits, and i'm currently in a ministerial taskforce, some community projects too. but thats abt it, and they were done in the past one or two years. the only consistent thing throughout, since 9th grade, is participation and then a committee post in a neighbourhood grassroots group. the rest of my school life and ECs has been abt science etc.

a paragraph of my essay is devoted to world leaders in general, and its last sentence is devoted to my dream of becoming an even better leader in the future.

what should i do?

if i put undecided major, would it hurt? if i also put undecided career plans, would it hurt too?

If you really feel this way, then put undecided. It's pretty easy to change your major if you get in.

You're overthinking this. If you're interested in political science, put it down.

If Yale was worried about capping, it wouldn't have 50% of its students in only six majors. Political science majors make up approximately 13.5% of all Yale students; clearly plenty are admitted.

whoa, I searched the Yale College webbie and couldn't find stats on % students in majors. where can I take a look at it?

Thanks much! I don't care anymore, I think i'll just put it down.

My area admissions rep said that putting possible majors is only a teeny tiny window into what interests you but has no bearing whatsoever on your admissions.

That's right! Good luck ;)
