Would it hurt my chances if I apply after the Priority Deadline?

Hey guys, I'm going to apply to FSU, but I'm not sure if I'll make the priority deadline in time. I'm pretty busy with schoolwork and applying for other schools, also my dumb school can't get my transcript right.. I'm missing classes on it and some credits are wrong, etc. My counselor said there's no point in applying after the priority deadline because "nobody gets accepted after that deadline."

FSU is not my first choice, but it's instate so I don't want to hurt my chances.

They accept lots of people in the second round! If you want to apply but aren’t ready yet, you certainly still have a chance of being accepted at the later deadline. If your transcripts are incorrect, it could hurt you more than help you to apply now. Wait until you have everything in order and then apply.

Your counselor sounds like a bad counselor… A lot of people don’t get accepted for the term that they’d like, but still there were hundreds of students accepted for Fall last year when they applied after the first deadline.

By the second deadline it is more competitive. You have to have higher scores and GPA’s if you wait. What are your Stats?

Thanks guys.

@sunnyflorida

3.95 UW GPA, 4.6 calculated I guess. Top 4% of 763. 2000-2100 October SATs. 8 APs and 5 DE classes.

So…?

Your stats look really good to me. The only concern I would have about applying later is that your chance at receiving a merit-based scholarship (in addition to Florida brights) from FSU might decrease. My daughter received one of those in December of her senior year, and I’ve heard that once the money runs out, that’s it, even if your stats are great.

Thanks fsutimes2. Ahh I see. And how do I apply for a merit-based scholarship from FSU? Also, I just took my final SAT yesterday. How do I tell them that so they can see my scores when they come out on October 29?

There is no separate application for an FSU merit-based scholarship; you will be automatically considered once you are accepted. As for the SAT score, as long as you listed FSU as one of your score recipients they should receive it fairly soon and will add it to your application info after it comes to them. You can check your application status periodically to make sure they have received it.

I agree. You have great stats and are likely in with ether application period. But merit aid usually only goes to those who have their acceptances with the first group. This also indicates that students are more interested in FSU and more motivated to get the application done. Merit aid is given first come first serve, and there is little left by March.

There is no separate application. It is awarded automatically by stats.

And THEY WILL accept scores from October testing, If you indicated on the SAT you wanted to have FSU get scores, they get them electronically quite soon after scores are released. Once you get them online yourself you can email them and self-report them and alert them that the scores are out.

Alright thanks guys. And I’m not talking about applying super late. The deadline for priority is October 15 so I would probably apply a few days after the deadline as in this weekend lol. Ah, but wouldn’t they review my application before the SAT scores come out? And what if they don’t like my previous score and reject me? Basically is there an option on apps that say you are sending other scores? I know there’s an option to list any future SAT dates, but I’m not taking it again… if I don’t put anything though they might think that I took my last one in May and not October?

Just so you understand, if you do not submit the application by the 15th, your application will not be considered during the first application period. A few days after the deadline means that your application will not be considered until January and a decision will not be rendered until March 16. There are no rolling admissions or decisions. There are decisions released Dec 6th for the applications received by October 15, and there are decisions released March 16 for those applications received after October 15. A few days late means a wait of 3 extra months.

And yes, the application is reviewed before the scores update. Some are already determined to be in before the update, and those students didn’t really need to retake. Some apps are on the fence until the update and then are given a yes, and some will be deferred after the update. NO ONE is denied from the October 15 deadline. In years past, if you did not get in during priority, you were simply deferred to the next decision period.

Yea I know sunnyflorida. I’m trying to get mine in by October 15th, but I don’t think it will happen because my transcript is still messed up. They want the transcript by the 15th too? So I was basically asking if I do turn it in after the 15th deadline but a few days after (the 18th?) am I going to be at the top of the 2nd deadline applicants, in regards to the opportunity for some merit aid?

And alright, thanks for the SAT info.

Ugh, I just started this FSU app and its asking for my senior course load but only provides 8 spaces… yet I have like 10 classes senior year because of DE -__- and I also took 2 summer classes in the middle of junior and senior year so how do I list those as well?

EDIT: Nvm, there’s an option for more spaces. But its asking for my senior courses so do I put those two summer classes? And also I started Online PE/LM my Junior year but still havent finished so I’m still working on it senior year… do I put that as one of my courses for senior year?

and I will tell you I knew of one student that tried to submit the application late in the evening of Oct. 15 and it wouldn’t take. I would make sure it goes during business hours–actually I would try to avoid the last day as I’m sure the servers will be loaded with applications. I say get it in…if you want on campus housing then getting in early will get you a decent priority number. The second group of admissions get low numbers or don’t get housing at all.
