I’m currently a junior enrolled in APUSH, to which I have a 98 overall final average in currently. I would really like to pursue a major in history in college. My school is very small and I just did my scheduling for next year, and unfortunately they do not offer any other history classes for me to take my senior year. I’m just wondering if I consider retaking apush next year as an elective, would it look bad to colleges? I excelled this year in the class and I would not be doing it for a higher score. I’d just like to take history class as that is what I am interested in going for college. It would be an elective, as I have already filled my schedule with other ap and cihs classes, so would that look bad to some colleges or would they not care?
I think that would be odd. Does your school even allow that? What’s the point if you’ve already learned the material? Is there a nearby CC where you could take a history course?
Agree ^^, it is highly unlikely that your HS will allow you to retake the course and the colleges would find it strange to have the course listed twice on your transcript. Colleges do not expect students to specialize in HS. Take a useful AP elective or consider taking a history class at your local CC as suggested by @suzy100.
Agreed. This is a moot point, as I doubt the HS would allow it.
Just in case the high school would allow it, I would strongly advise against it. Almost certainly will look bad.
If you’re really passionate about history that much, consider taking AP European History or AP World History online.
