I have a question. I would really like to test my knowledge and take 10 sat 2s over the course of the next year and a half. Would it look bad to take so many sat 2s, like a smartass or something.

if you want to waste your money on something so pointless, then go ahead.

but no, it probably won't look bad.

ummm...the adcoms might be like what's the point of that? but it prolly won't look bad...
they'll just think you're a nerd and have no life or friends lol

Yes, it would look bad. Adcoms really do prefer you spend your Saturdays doing something more fun and productive. There are plenty of adcoms on CC who have said exactly that. No college requires more than three, and not many want even that many.

thanks. I reconsidered doing that after the first post. It would probably be more effective doing more community service projects that actually help people anyway. I think I am just gonna stick to my original four; french, japanese, spanish, math 2.

No offense, but that was a really bad question. The most any college requires is three, and you're asking if you should take more than double that.

Imo though, don't take 3 languages. Better to drop 2 and take a science or history.

the thing is, languages are my expertise. And I've always been good at math. I already took a history, i got 710. I really want to keep my options open. Plus, wouldn't it look good to show a good command of a variety of languages?

I agree with CountingDown, it wouldn't make you look like a "smartass", imo just a dumbass no offense. It's just a waste of money and time (studying for test and taking the test). If you're trying to show off to the admissions people, I'd go for something else and use that try for some EC like volunteer or something. I mean for languages (while most people would probably disagree), I would say if you fluently know the top 3 languages: english, spanish, chinese...then go for spanish and chinese because those languages are extremely useful (hence it does depend on what you major in)

ok kill me why don't cha.. it was stupid idea. oh well.

If you won't invest THAT much time in EXTRA preparation, then YES.
Take as many as you please, so as long as you'll score well.

Besides, they are only hour-long tests.
The critics are merely jealous because they can't score 750+s on a dozen SAT IIs.

Do you have a life? Schools like HYPSM don't want you taking that many tests. It demonstrates that you have nothing better to do with your time than sit in a classroom, filling in little bubbles.

Why not? It'll make you a more "balanced" student.

The "critics" are actually just trying to be a voice of reason...

That's a very compelling argument.

You purport to know what HYPSM want and don't want?
I think they'd be more appalled to know the hundreds of hours that students have squandered on this site.
