So far I'm pretty kept up / ahead of the game so to speak. First Quarter I took 22 units, second quarter I took 14 (I think). However, this quarter a lot of things seem to be popping up, and I don't think I can handle a full course load. I plan on taking a few classes over the summer if absolutely necessary, but I don't think I would have to. I also have some AP test credits under my belt, so I don't know how much that would help. If someone could chime in on this today that would be awesome, because I have to make my decision by the end of today. Please excuse my grammar/spelling as I haven't slept in a few days.

Thanks,
Pavan

edit: I guess essentially my question would be: would I look like a poor performer academically? I do plan on working either full time or close to full time if I do drop down to 9 units

In what context? What are your transfer goals? Who will be judging you as a poor performer? When are you transferring? Are you a University student or community college student? Not enough information here.

I go to de anza college (cali community college)
I want to transfer to the UC system (1st goal is berkeley 2nd LA)
I plan on applying to transfer in Fall 2007

I went ahead and dropped down to 9 units--According to my counselor, the UC's don't look at quarterly courseload so much as overall completion of classes and GPA.

In that case you're fine. When you apply to UC's, you can explain why you took a lesser courseload in a small comment box that is provided in each form. UC's are very accomodating to students who are unable to attend school full time, provided they can explain why. I've asked a Berkeley counseler this, and they said a reasonable explanation is all that is needed.
