Would like some advice

Hi,
Firstly I would like to thank all of the people who contribute to this forum. I greatly appreciate your dedication.

Now to my question,

I'm thinking of finishing my all my pre-reqs for med school in the first two years, and taking the MCAT the summer before my junior year. I understand norcalguy did this and it went well for him. But my problem is that when I take the MCAT I will be missing Biochemistry, animal anatomy, and then the second physics class. My friends who took the MCAT say that taking animal anatomy will help you in the MCAT. Also another concern for me is the expiration of my MCAT score. Will I be able to apply for med school with my MCAT school if I stay another year in undergrad, making my time in undergrad a total of 5 years? Which will make my MCAT score about 3 years old.

Biochem is not a concern at all. Physics and anatomy are mild concerns.

You will be able to stay ONE extra year and take no time off. Scores expire exactly in three years.

Thank you bluedevilmike,

So your saying if I take the mcat the summer before my junior year, I can stay five at undergrad and still apply?

... you will be able to stay one extra year. So yes, five.

Then its settled I'm taking my MCAT next summer.

I'm taking orgo 1 and orgo 2 this summer, so that will be fun. I hope not taking anatomy will not affect my score.

Thank you again bluedevilmike, your advice on this forum is greatly appreciated by me and hopefully everyone.

I was just rereading this and noticed that I made a mistake: Anatomy's not a problem at all. That's not on the MCAT. Physiology is what matters; I got confused because many undergrads combine the two subjects into one course.

oops, I meant anatomy and physiology. By the way, I was searching thru' this forum and I saw a post of yours which stated the acceptance rates of undergrads from Duke http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/duke-university/147457-pre-med.html

Where can I find the acceptance rate to med school from undergrad students from Univ of Mich Ann Arbor?

Unfortunately you'll find I know Duke's information much better than anybody else's.

Ask and you shall receive:

U-M :: The Career Center :: For Students :: Med School Application

The data looks fairly complete as it includes 600+ students.

would we want to take these stats w/ a grain of salt though, since they may be manipulated?

also, i noticed some ppl who got into med school w/ very low stats
does that mean they had some spectacular EC's? awesome interviews?

Wow. That is very complete.

FACTS Table 2-7. Undergraduate Institutions Supplying 100 or More White Applicants to U.S. Medical Schools

What type of Physiology is covered on the MCATS: human or animal? Both courses are offered at my university. To what extent is it tested and do you think it would be detrimental to not have had Physiology? Thank you!

Either way is fine. It's not officially tested at all, but a lot of the principles carry over. I think physiology is helpful.

wow you guys are amazing. I've find been searching for about a hour and couldn't find anything.

I'm currently a freshman at U of Mich- Dearborn and thinking of transferring to Ann Arbor- not because Ann Arbor is a "good pre med school." I just think academically there's a lot Ann Arbor can offer me. But, it is also far away and academically more competitive over there. So, I am stuck.

I have until Feb 1st to decide.

Thanks again everyone especially bluedevil and norcalguy.
