Would love some opinions

First, this board has been so helpful--thank you!

Junior D has 2240 SAT and most likely NMSF or NMF, EC's decent/good (great work experience and lots of writing, some voluneering). Here's where she is considering:

Hillsdale
Wheaton
Asbury
Hope
Grace (Indiana)
Centre
Possibly Wash U St Louis

She is looking for a smaller, more conservative student LAC, within 5 hours of our home.

Any thoughts? Money chances at Hillsdale and Wheaton? Suggestions?

Thank you.

By “money chances” do you mean chances for merit scholarship money?
Your D’s scores are well above average for all those schools except WashU.
Wheaton and Hillsdale do give many merit scholarships (though in small average amounts, ~$5K). Centre offers merit scholarships to just as high a proportion of enrolled students, but in larger average amounts. If your D’s other qualifications are as strong as her scores, she should have a shot at merit money from these colleges.

If you mean need-based aid, use each school’s online Net Price Calculator to get an estimate.

I looked into Centre College and was favorably impressed. They seem to have an admin that is trying to overcome the difficulties of being small, LAC, unknown, and isolated. When they announced that they might add 40 and eventually 160, I think it was, full ride scholarships to the 10 they already offer, they had my attention. But that possibility has either fallen thru or been put on hold for now. Too bad. It would have garnered a lot of attention for a promising school and brought to campus a lot more elite applicants. The reports on Danville as an adjacent town seem decidedly mixed. As for your D’s requirements, Centre’s origins are Presbyterian, but I didn’t find it religious at all, nor conservative enough to scare me off. D decided Danville was not for her.
