Would low income affect international student?

Hi, I am applying to NYU ED as a international student, but my family income I put on my CSS profile is pretty low. I know they are need-aware to international students. Would it affect my chance? I am pretty worry, please help!

NYU is notorious for bad financial aid. Did you run the Net Price Calculator before applying to see what your possible financial package would be? Why apply ED if you cannot afford to attend?

From NYU website:
Financial aid to international students on our New York campus is only available for incoming freshmen. If offered admission, international students will be required to submit a certification of finances demonstrating that they will be able to fund their four years of study through a combination of their own funds and any financial assistance we may provide. Students should not submit a certification of finances or bank statements until after they are offered admission.

International Students: NYU offers limited financial support in the form of institutional grants/scholarships to international freshmen admitted to our New York campus. Grants/scholarships will be based upon a combination of financial need and academic merit. Students who are not U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens and who wish to be considered for institutional financial aid when applying for admission to the NYU New York campus should complete ONLY the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE to be considered for institutional financial aid funds. International students cannot apply for financial support after they are admitted. Admission to NYU New York is need-aware for international applicants; New York University will consider a family’s financial need as reported on the PROFILE when evaluating the student’s application for admission.

NYU likes to include a lot of loans in the financial package and since you are International, you do not qualify for Federal Loans.

Back in December you said that you reported only US income, not Chinese assets and income and you were worried that your essay about how successful your mother’s business in would not align with those assets. The advice on that thread was uniformly to notify NYU and revise your assets, which you said that you had done/were going to do.

You know perfectly well that ‘need-aware’ means that the college will consider how much financial aid you need when considering whether or not to offer you a place, and NYU spells it out:

Obviously I don’t know why you haven’t corrected your info with NYU once you knew that your application contained wrong information, but from here it gives the appearance that you were trying to get financial aid by not reporting income. Now you are worrying that it might cost you your place.

The answer is the same as it was back in December: contact the admissions office directly- email and then pick up the phone and actually call them to be sure that they got it- and explain that you are not looking for financial aid, that the info you provided was US info only.

Yes it will be considered. Hopefully you are applying to other schools in your native country.

Since NYU is indeed need-aware (almost all schools are n-a for int’l applicants), yes, it will be a factor in their decision.
