My GPA is a 3.75 with an SAT score of 1210. I know my SAT is not as high as it could be but I know many others who have lower stats and essays that they themselves admitted to not being that good and got in. I have many EC, such as President of MSA, Writing tutor, Judo (got elected for Junior team captain), worked at the diversity office at my college (Running Start student) as a Refugee Peer Navigator, and some others. My personal statement was solid and I thought for sure I would get in. Would this have affected it? I plan on sending an email of continued interest soon as well, but I’m not sure if I should include this mistake or not.
Also, UW didn’t want any transcripts and based everything off of what we manually inserted. So they wouldn’t have been able to check my transcript unless they went out of their way somehow to get it.
My d attends a very academic private school in the Seattle area with a challenging curriculum. Lots of her friends at school who seemed very well qualified were waitlisted and some were rejected. The typical GPA now accepted is around yours (or higher) but with a higher SAT score. Unfortunately a lot of kids who are very well qualified are not getting into the UW. Not because they aren’t good students but because there aren’t enough seats. The UW is just becoming more and more competitive. You really have to go the extra mile these days to stand out. The UW admissions office are warning that they didn’t take anyone from the waitlist the last couple of years. I would explore your other college options at this stage.
Realized I missed the point about weighted/unweighted. It might all be too late now decisions have been made but you can go through the appeal process which is very straightforward.
Yes, 3.75 weighted is very different from 3.75 unweighted so you should appeal.
That said I agree with others that it’s just very competitive. 20 years ago, I went to school with people who had great ECs (class president for multiple years, volunteering at a hospital for multiple years, plus a 3.7 GPA) got rejected. It is now nearly twice as competitive (at that time it was over 80%, now it’s 50% but it’s a more competitive pool as well).
You are in good company whatever the final decision.
