Would my chances of getting accepted be high if i have high SAT but low GPA?

if i have a GPA of 2.6 and lets say SAT of 2285 out of 2400?

Accepted where?

depends where you’re trying to attend

GPA is going to be really tough, will show the AdComs you were either lazy or had some serious unaddressed problems. Go to a community college to get your grades up and apply as a transfer

And good luck on getting a 2285 on the SAT. It’s literally impossible. And yeah, your GPA will hold you back.

On another, unrelated note: Post number 1234. Yay.

What if I get better grades on my last two report cards? And shows an improvemnt in GPA? How is it measured anyway?

Upward trends certainly look good, but a 2.6 is almost unsalvageable. Not sure if I missed what school your applying to, but IMO cc is your best bet.

Btw please understand that I’m not saying your unintelligent or anything.

Where are you applying? GPA is more important than test scores by a decent margin.

There are many colleges that will accept a student with a 2.6. It is certainly not “unsalvageable”. Showing improvement is always good. Most colleges are not very competitive at all.

There are plenty of decent state schools you could get into. Many are perfectly willing to accept 2.5-3.0 GPAs, and even more so if a student couples that with a strong SAT score.

Um, where?

Western Oregon University and University of Oregon (must have C- or better in 15 courses) are the ones that came to mind. There are probably more.

Those aren’t amazing academically, but they are fine.

I actually don’t know my GPA. I’m from a school in a country that doesn’t focus on SATs and GPAs and all that. However, I want to apply to a US university. So I will write SATs soon. So on my transcript there probably won’t be a GPA. But all the saMe my grades will be considered, idk how coz we don’ get graded with A, B,… Just percentage

if i’m applying to yale duke princeton harvard

Sorry, but no. Take this from someone who had a 2.9 in high school, but scored almost 2200 on the SAT and 34 on the ACT. Schools of that caliber expect not only perfect grades and high test scores, but impressive extracurriculars on top of that. With my grades and test scores, sports, community service, and a long-term impressive job, I got rejected from Boston University, UCSB, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, etc. just because of my GPA. You can definitely get into a decent school, but not an Ivy League-caliber school.

This post is really really late, but it honestly depends on your progression throughout high school. Schools might be really impressed with you if you did badly freshman/sophomore year but did substantially better the next two years. However, Yale, Duke, Princeton, and Harvard will often reject students even if they have a 4.0 GPA and a high SAT score. If you want to get into a fantastic school, it will be hard, and I would suggest schools that use a holistic approach. Also, write a killer essay. Good luck!

No chance whatsoever with that low a GPA, regardless of your test scores. Those colleges actually reject the majority of applicants with perfect test scores, most of whom also have high GPAs. Most of them also spell, punctuate, and construct sentences correctly.
