Hubby, I and Krazie bought South West tickets for Thursday August 5, returning home Mon Aug 9 and got the $300 rt or $150 one way airfares. More importantly, Krazie now has 6 luggages or boxes that she can fill. We will visit 1 -2 days in Atlanta or surrounding area and then get to T-town by Sat.

Everyone who will be dropping their kids that weekend for OA or AA, do you want to get together for dinner Sat night at Full Moon or somewhere else?

I don’t know the restaurant but getting together sounds fun - would be a nice group.

Do consider if you want to try and get together before August! I posted a thread suggesting central/southern cal people consider that but no one has grabbed at the idea
Its just a challenge to drive around this state!

Mom of four - sounds like a great idea, count us in.

The Student - I read your post and have been pondering what would work in order to get a nice group together. From Mission Viejo so your a ways away (mostly because of 5 fwy traffic through LA)- we’ll have to brainstorm for a central location.

^^

I met a Bama student from Mission Viejo, but I think he’s graduating this month.

Yes. I was thinking you were from Anaheim area. Interesting that we both are ‘avoiding’ the traffic! Alabama looks better and better! :)

Maybe Disneyland? Maybe Santa Clarita, Fort Tejon? The museums?

we are seriously considering a road trip. So Cal to Bama. Leaving Around Aug 2 and arriving in Alabama on August 7. then a quick turn around on August 9 and back on August 12. Has anyone from CA been brave enough to try this?

We are thinking of driving thorough Las Cruses NM, we have family there. Then San Antonio and on to New Orleans then up to Tuscalossa.

Any Opinions? Our reasoning is we have two daughters 15, 10 that would come and they would get a chance to see a lot. They want to see brother’s school…And it might be one of the last times our 15 year old will want to travel with us like this.

Yes! We have driven from Calif to Alabama and back a few times…at least 4 or 5 that I can think of immediately. Twice we did it when my mom had a stroke and we couldn’t get air fares at a decent rate.

When we did it the first time, it was when we moved here and our home wasn’t done yet, so we decided to drive instead of fly. We took nearly 3 weeks to get here…LOL…saw the country!

The next time we did it, we did it in 2 days…that’s become our benchmark. It’s an easy drive…across the I-40. It certainly helps if there is more than one driver!

And…if you stop at Cracker Barrel, you can pick up “Books on Tapes” and listen to them and drop them off at a later Cracker Barrel. Just be aware that there aren’t any Cracker Barrels in Calif (I don’t think), so you need to leave your last one in Arizona.

We’ve also done it across the I-10, but that takes longer. But, we wanted to see San Antonio and a few other sites.

We’ll be arriving for OA on Saturday the 7th and would enjoy meeting up with any CC’ers for dinner - great idea Mom of four.

^^^Count us in as well.

Driving back yesterday saw a car with Bama license plate frame (first one ever) getting off the freeway in Mission Viejo. I was tempted to tell hubby to follow and find out if they have a student there or were an alumni (although it was not an alumni plate). Always looking for a connection.

WOW!!! I’m impressed.

My girls keep telling their brother they’ll miss him and are hanging out together more –

BUT --I couldn’t get them to go along with a family road trip to take him to school. Want a week at the beach or some such with him. Wish there was a train option, that they’d love to do.

I know a Mission Viejo boy that was in CBH, but I think he graduated last year.

thanks for the complement…my kids are really special!
