Would science research be worth the time?

I'm thinking about doing a science research because I absolutely love physics and chemistry. Will my hard courseload, I will definitely have hard time fitting it into my schedule ((-1)+hrs of sleep?). Of course, I would like my hard work to be seen and acknowledged by adcoms when I apply. I don't plan on entering my science research for a science fair competition by the end of my junior year so I probably won't have an award or anything. If I put that I've been working on a science project since junior year, what would it be worth?

I'm doing this project mainly for the experience (I want to know what it is like being a researcher) and to see if I want to pursue this kind of job in the future. I want to see how hard it is to become successful in science researching. But, of course, I would like to win the science competition and have my work seen by the admissions officers.

Please tell me what you think. Thanks!

Putting that you've been doing some science project since junior year probably won't be worth much. Getting a good recommendation from an adult mentor/sponsor would be worth something. Entering Intel STS and/or Siemens during fall of senior year and winning something would be worth more than just something. Writing an essay about your experience researching would also potentially be worth something.

^ what he said.

Yes, what chronicidal said. Generally, research is seen as a positive so as long as you put effort into it, I'm sure adcoms will acknowledge it.
