Would self studying APUSH make a difference?

I want to get straight A's all 4 years but APUSH is the only class people are almost guaranteed to get a B in.

Here are the AP's I will have taken (soph to senior yr):
AP Comp Sci

AP Calculus AB

AP Calculus BC
AP Physics C Mechanics
AP Chemistry

AP Spanish Lang

AP English Lang
AP Econ
AP Psych or Stats
AP Environmental or Bio
IB Math HL (might/might not take test since I'm not in IB)

I was considering being a TA for one of the good APUSH teachers. Does self studying suffice for not taking the class? Is it worth it?

I just finished my Junior year and I took APUSH so I hope my insight is helpful. I wouldn’t take the AP exam if you are not taking the class. The 3 essays are a major part of the AP exam and a large component of the class is learning to write these AP level 9 essays. APUSH essays are written in a very specific way, especially the DBQ (document based question), so even if you are a good writer you might not be prepared for how quickly the multiple essays have to be written and how to meet the specific criteria. Yes, they have the grading scale and some examples on collegeboard but it takes a lot of practice to write a successful APUSH essay. I wouldn’t suggest self studying for the AP exam unless you are willing to put hours not only to learn the course material but also how to write these essays.
