Would someone please list the differences between CGS and other parts of the school?

What exactly is the College of General Studies compared to the rest of the school. I want to major in chemistry…would this be a problem getting accepted into CGS? Thanks!

Boston University College of General Studies

BO5T0N, weren't you in CGS?

If you were, would you mind elaborating on CGS a little bit? I've read the site a few times and scoured through the menu looking for specific information, but it's all very vague, save for the course outline.

I'm pretty paranoid that I'm going to get deferred to CGS, and I want to know if putting two years into CGS just so I can go to BU'S CAS is worth it. A personal account would help immensely, if it's not too much trouble.

Yes, but I've since left BU. I personally think CGS is a mistake. If you want to go to BU, but get deferred to CGS, I wouldnt do it.

What made it so bad? My only other choice is to go to University of Kansas, so I'm not sure which is worse, as I'd rather not go to a public university.

Honors? I think KU and KSU are supposed to have solid honors programs.

Probably not. My GPA is extremely low because of a faulty Freshman year, even though my current GPA is something like 4.3 weighted currently and a 30 on the ACT. I'd like to apply for Honors, but I doubt that if I don't qualify for scholarships I would qualify for Honors.

Also, apologies for hijacking, appicant.

I think you should be fine 4.3 weighted+30 ACT?

There are probably 100 threads about CGS and a variety of opinions about it from those in it or went through it and those not in it. My suggestion is that you don't worry about it until you find out.

If you're applying as a chemistry major, I think they'd defer you to SEP (Science and Engineering Program) before they deferred you to CGS

Boston University Metropolitan College Undergraduate Degrees: Undergraduate Bachelor of Science and Engineering Degree

It's essentially the same type of deal as CGS. You take 2 years of classes in the Metropolitan College and then transfer to CAS. It's just geared more towards science-related majors instead of liberal arts

Do you think CGS would accept college credit? I received credit for Statistics and Microeconomics. (Not AP but I actually took the courses at a local college)

I also took Advanced Web Design but I know for sure that they wouldn't accept that.

I don't think CGS would accept it, but I'm sure whichever college you transfer into would take it.

Oh gotcha. So it would still be valid after 2 years?
