Sport was not on my kid’s criteria list at all while she included everything that her heart desired, like pretty campus.
For my DD16, it was the first criteria. We are a big sports family and love attending all types of events. When making her “to visit” list junior year, she only started with schools that were D1 and competitive in football and basketball.
I worked in the Sports Information office at UM during the 90’s, so I was privy to a lot of inside workings college athletics.
I think the NCAA and the universities egregiously exploit athletes for their own gain.
I think young people are physically destroyed to provide entertainment for the masses.
I think many organized sports encourage, allow and protect abuse of many different types.
So, no, not a fan of organized sports at all.
^^what @MotherOfDragons said. =D>
D would actually prefer a school with few, if any, sports teams. On the other hand, her “wish list” included a theatre, dance, and art component, even though, with the exception of club a capella, has no involvement. I don’t know how these kids have the time to attend all these sporting games, never mind be a part of the program. My D is lucky to have a few extra hours on the weekend to do as she wishes.
