would these people i know be considered "connections" for letters of reccomendation?

my friends mom taught at Princeton University and she is quite fond of me

friends dad graduated from MIT and also Caltech

tutor graduated from Rutgers

would getting a letter of recommendation from an alumni help you get into that college? or is it unproffessional to get a letter from a friends parent?

thanks!

Well for starters, 2 and 3 are not connections. Those people have no relation to Princeton.

As for the mom who taught at Princeton, have you worked with her at all in an academic setting? If the recommendation would be nothing more than “I know this candidate and he has outstanding character,” it wouldn’t add much.

oh this question was in general, i dont really have a specific college in mind. i just posted it in the princeton forum because i figured that this one got the most traffic.

well she thinks i’m really smart, i’ve gone to museums with her and we talked about really intellectual things together… not sure if that counts lol

dont colleges use letters of recs to see the applicants character too or is it just for the academics? thanks!

ps i’m a girl

Don’t try too hard…

My comment stands. If you worked with/studied under an alum in some setting and got a recommendation, it certainly could help. Having an alum speak about how fond she is of you, however, will not help.
