Would they really care?

First, let me say this. I think I worry more than ANYONE in the world. I'm always overthinking everything. I've called both schools I applied for next spring (Clemson, and the University of South Carolina) with this issue.

Ok, so a little back ground info. I graduated high school in 2010, and had the mind set that I wanted to be an automotive mechanic. A local community college was offering an "Automotive Technology" degree so I enrolled in the program in Fall of 2010 (After the summer of my graduation). Two weeks into the class, I realised I made a mistake. I did NOT want to be an automotive mechanic anymore. It wasn't for me. I wanted to follow in my fathers footsteps and recieve a Bacholer's of Science at one of the states (SC) universitys. So two weeks into the fall semester, I withdrawed from the college. I was able to drop 3 of the 5 classes I was scheduled to take. The other two were a "Automotive Electricty" class (dealing with wiring schematics in cars) and some crappy math class the major required. I was able to withdraw from the math class (thank god, the professor was teaching "how to add fractions" the first couple weeks and I swear no one in the class understood how too). The other class I couldn't withdraw from because it was a 3 week class and I was 2 weeks into it.

Well the folowing week I started attending another community college majoring in an univeristy transfer program. There was no way I was going to waste my time going to an "Automotive Electricty" class when I was already attending my new CC. I was acutally taking classes that transfer at my new CC.

Long story short is that I had to take an F, in that Automotive Electricty class. I wasn't going to skip class to go do something I didn't want to do anymore. So now I'm worried. I'm required to send all transcripts to both universitys and I'm stuck with a 0.0 gpa from the first CC. I recieved an F in automotive electricty (yea I know thats terrible). I have a 3.0 currently at my new cc, and will have completed 31 transferable credit hours by the end of this semester.

My question is, are these universitys going to judge my addmisions and factor that F in with my GPA in a class they've never even heard of, or will they just brush it off? I've called both schools and they told me I'm required to send the first CCs transcript in but they said they most likely wont factor that in with my other grades since It's like a vocational/carreer course.

I just wanted to get another opinion on it.

Hi Clem, I don’t think that you are alone with all of the worrying that you are doing. This is, in fact, a trasfer forum.

Concerning your problem, I understand how you are so worried about the single F that you recieved form a CC that you barely went to.
But, from the way I look at it- colleges seem to accept transfers and apply the earned credits that they have towards some sort of program (you said you wanted to follow in your father’s footsteps and recieve a B.S.) so I honestly don’t think that one random class will be a huge deal. I don’t think vocational grades go a long way if you are no longer pursuing that track.
I think the consolation that the colleges are giving you seems sound enough.

How many credits was this class worth, though? You said it was a 3-week long course?

Good luck!

That’s what I kind of have the idea of. I also explained my situation on the application. As far as how many credits the class was, it was acutally a 4 credit class. Non transferbale to any college in the state besides technical colleges that offer Automotive Technology.

I’m having to wait unitl Decemeber to hear back from Clemson. They want my grades from this semester before they make a decision. Hopefully the fact that my dad went there helps my chances. I’ll hear back from South Carolina no later than October, because there processing my application based on my mid-term grades.
