Hey everyone!
I developed an entrepreneurship simulation program in my school where
1) students made a fake business. Guided by their mentor, they were able to develop a complete business plan which they pitched to a panel of venture capitalists. This wasn't real, but it provided students a great outlook on what being an entrepreneur is all about.
2) students and mentors (VCs, CEOs, business professors and other entrepreneurs) met for a one-day conference. Students had the opportunity to talk with mentors about starting a business and other topics.
Would this be a good Hook? I am thinking of applying to some Ivies and colleges like Stanford and Berkeley.
Thanks

Its unique ec… but as joeybates said its not hook. but it might get you into some schools though good luck

Same as above. Hook is like legacy, URM …

But that is an awesome EC. You should use it as an essay or something …

Good luck!

Its not so much of a hook as it is an explanation of your ECs. Think about something that would draw in the admission officer. Think about it this way:
The admissions people are tired of reading thousands of college essays, and they often can tell the essay by the first few sentences. If you have a good hook, it will awaken them and they will read your essay with more interest. If you read thousands of essays as your job, would that be the hook that would interest you?

Really? I kept thinking of it as a hook by this definition: [Strategic Positioning: Your College Admissions Hook | InLikeMe](http://www.inlikeme.com/apply/strategic-positioning-your-college-admissions-hook.html)

I am really interested in engineering, but I am also interested in business as well. I really really loved this activity and am hoping to write about it for my essays :D…

^CCers call these hooks: first generation to go to college, low-income, and URM status. Your idea is unique, but not a hook, per se.

JB

i think those semantics are pretty particular to CC…

most times when people say “hook” they mean interesting things about the applicant like what the OP described

URM, legacy, low income is more affirmative action-ish than a “hook”

well not legacy so much

Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification!
@joeybates Well, I did place first for this states and nineth at a national competition.

Well it’s unique, and that can never hurt?
