So I was denied admission to UCSB for fall 2009, which kinda surprised me because I got into UCD and was around the mark stats wise for the school. I applied under film and media studies because I didn't really know what to pick. Today I just found out from the program's website that they only admit 60 freshman a year...could this be why I was denied? I put English as my second choice though and aside from that, I didn't have stats that would make UCSB a safety school either. I did appeal but its still pending, but I didn't ask to change majors in my appeal because I didn't know about the program's admissions at the time.

My friend applied to both schools for film. Got into Davis but not SB. What i heard, SB’s program is better. (7th in the nation? I think…)

flipstorm, the admission office would accept you to the school (UCSB) first and then look at your major. After that if you didn’t get in your first major, they’d admit you to your second major. So only admitting 60 students to the film studies major isn’t the reason why you got rejected.

I’m not sure what website you looked at, but I found this …
And this …

Ya, I just read that they don’t admit by major for college of letters and science except for the computer science major. >_<. least I now know that I was rejected for other reasons…

At least you won’t be haunted by the thought that you would have gotten into UCSB if you had just picked a different major. If UCSB is your 1st choice, there is a way to get much of the experience as a 4-year student – see the thread about the Backdoor Way into UCSB.
