would this be considered a "hook"?

hi, i have a 27 on the ACT and a 3.11 uw gpa, i have loved university of minnesota sports since I was about 8 years old and i am about the only one in my high school to do so. Anyways, I have been in contact with the admission counselor for the College of Education and Human Development for a while now, on my tour a lady talked to me and was asking a few questions, my loyalty to gopher sports came up and she happened to be the rep. from Illinois (the state I live in). A few weeks later I got a letter in the mail, it was handwritten from this lady at Minnesota, it said "Dear........I hope you enjoy this signed picture of our football coach, if you have any questions about admission do not hesitate to ask..." a few weeks later, the admission counselor that i had been emailing called me at my house, we talked for a few minutes and that was that, would any of these be a "hook" to Minnesota??

Your gopher pride reminds me of my ironic love for the longhorns since I was 10 (I was born in College Station, TX, where the rival school is and I live in pennsylvania right now). Anyway, it might be a hook if they know about it.

I don’t think that interest in sports is a hook unless you are an athlete. Admissions reps are very interested in OOS students because they pay more in tuition. If you want to see how you stack up for admission, go on the U’s website and seach for admitted student statistics for the college you want to attend. Try to get the best grades you can, maybe think about retaking the ACT and most of all APPLY EARLY (like the first day the applications come online in August).
