Would this be considered an extracurricular or just stupid and pointless?

This question is actually from my friend. She's a senior currently applying to colleges and she feels wary about putting down one of her extracurriculars. I told her to put it down as it shows passion and time commitment(she's been doing this for a while).

Her extracurricular is running a Harry Potter blog. She spends about an hour each day running it and creating gifs and such for it. She has over 2500 people who follow her blog and she absolutely loves doing this. When most teenagers are out on Friday nights, she's at home creating screencaps and such.

Now, would colleges see spending time on this as silly? Or would they see how dedicated she is to her blog and her passion for it?

By the way, she has other extracurriculars too such as volunteering, student council, NHS. She also has good grades. It's not like she pushed everything aside for her blog.

Please tell us your opinion! Thank you!

sure, include it

Do it. Talk about the blog software/ photo editing software, etc. that you use & play up the technical aspects of running a blog. Building an audience is no small task. Talk about that too. You may not be curing cancer but you are bringing people together to talk about something that makes them smile.

If it’s something that interests people (and clearly in this case it does)< definitely include it.

That’s a great extracurricular. It really shows her passion for Harry Potter and thus, literature. And she has over 2500 people following it. That is a LOT. It shows she is adept at attracting people to her website and being a people person by having that many people follow it.

She says thank you and that after reading your responses she’ll definitely include it. :)
