So one of the schools I am applying to weights the essay pretty heavily. One of the options you can choose is to give your own essay, meaning your own topic etc. This past year in school we had to write personal philosophy essays and throughout the whole period our teacher kept telling us that we can use these for college admissions. I die really well on mine and figured I could use it for this college essay prompt. Since my actual essay is significantly longer than what is needed for the college, would it be plagiarism if me and my teacher edited the essay and then submitted it. I don’t mean in any way that the teacher would be writing the essay. Is it plagiarism to submit an essay you already wrote as your college essay? Thanks, and if this was confusing I can try to clear it up.
Of course you can use your own previously-written personal essay.
@CheddarcheeseMN ok thank you.i was unsure because this was a school assignment turned in on turn it in .com. When I said personal philosophy, I have quotes from other philosophers and opinions so I didn’t know if that would make a difference. Thank you.
It’s not plagiarism to submit your own work. But if a school requires original work, resubmitting your earlier work verbatim might be regarded as Academic Dishonesty.
Academic Dishonesty is an umbrella that covers many kinds of violations:
- plagiarism
- cheating
- doing someone else’s work for him/her
- and (at some schools) resubmitting your earlier work verbatim
@GMTplus7 so as long as I edit it I should be fine?
It’s fine for you to use it.
