Ok so im really confused right now. Ive wanted to go to boarding school for forever, and my parents finally let me apply. I got accepted into Andover as a repeat 10th grader, and i told them i would be attending. When i applied to Andover i didnt really like my current school much. However as the year went on, i began to love my current school, and i feel like my peers really respect and enjoy my company, i can honestly say i am friends with 90% of my grade, and i dont have a free minute between school sports and social events. Now that the school year is finished, im begingn to wonder if going to Andover would really make sense more over the fact i have to repeat 10th grade. I love my school, and it does provide some of the best education in the state, although i doubt it can contest with andover. In your opinion what would make the most sense, Staying at my school which i love and graduating in 2 years, or going to andover which provides the best education possible, with the possibility of hating it and being forced to spend 3 years there?

Do what you feel is right. Don’t feel compelled to do something if you don’t feel comfortable with it but with that said don’t just take the safe way out. Make sure that you really want to stay at your current school before deciding on not going to Andover. You could probably e-mail or call andover and see if you can shadow a current andover student and see how you feel after that but I don’t know if students are still in school. PM Tomthecat about Andover or just wait a day/few hours and he should post on this thread. haha

I suggest in my opinion that you give Andover a try for a year and if you don’t like it, just leave after 1 year or, phone Andover up and ask if you could go as a PG when you finish high school. I know the second idea is a long shot but hey it’s worth a try.

i thought about that but if i go for a year i would be going as a sophomore and the next year all my friends would be seniors so it wouldnt work

The friends you’ll make at Andover will seem like family after you live with them for three years, and you’ll remember those friendships and experiences forever. Friendships you make at boarding school are often much more intense because, as I said before, you live with those people. Just my 2c. I had tons of friends at my old school too, but after having spent a year here, I know it was the right choice for me to come to Andover.

But only do what you think is right for you.

I agree with the individual above me, who sounds very intelligent and may just happen to live in Bishop.

Go to Andover. It’s fun.

Maybe you can phone Andover and…ask them if you can enroll in 11th grade?

Speak with your parents. Some students do get cold feet at the last minute, but sometimes their family is on the hook for tuition, whether or not they attend the school.

I don’t think there is a wrong decision to be made. Only you and your parents can decide what would be best for you.

go to andover, great opportunity

I agree with gonnastop. The same exact thing happened with me. I got accepted to St. Mark’s as a 10th grader, and after several phone calls and e-mails with the Admissions Committee, they were able to reevaluate my application and decided to accept me for 11th grade :)

i applied for 11th grade but got accepted for tenth, because they think i will adjust better in that grade or something

It comes down to whether friendships or academics, present and future, are more important to you.

I’m just curious—is an Andover education for everyone? Why people all consider it a great opportunity while Exeter, SPS are more of a love or hate type.

Why are you so sure that the OP would love Andover???(sorry I don’t go to a BS)

something for everyone. and everything is great quality. u can still have a social life as opposed to exeter, but get as great an education.

I am sure the people at Exeter don’t consider it a great education!! :D

After talking to people in Exeter, seeing posts on Facebook, and looking at the website, I have come to the conclusion that Exeter students can have just as much as social life as anybody. It’s just that Andover students are perceived as more relaxed because they are allowed to wear whatever they want (almost) to class as opposed to Exeter’s dress code.

wow urban it was one thing to tell me off on the social life aspect by the way i have seen some pretty out of line clothing at exeter but another to tell me that people at exeter dont consider andover to be a great education. the reason why they are such close rivals is because they are both so great. i was just trying to name some differences. all u are doing is showing urself off in an arrogant and incompetent way. u dont represent the entirety of the exeter population sweetie.

candidate, aren’t your last two lines above hypocritical of yourself, if you replace exeter with andover.

of course i loved exeter. but seriously u cant deny that they are both great schools, just with different styles. for urban to say that the whole of exeter thinks that the education at andover is not GREAT is a little extreme. wouldnt u agree. to say the least.

I think urban was just joking. Everyone knows that Andover provides a great reputation. No one is doubting that.

That’s like saying that Alabama football sucks. I’m an Auburn fan, and Alabama’s our rival. But they were the national champions this year, so they obviously don’t suck.

she isnt one to generally jokeeee
