Would it be smart to get a letter of recommendation from my junior AP Language teacher? She seems to like me; she tells me about essay writing scholarships I could win, because she helped me when Honorable Mention for National Peace Essay contest. I got a 4 on the AP Exam to. The thing about it however is that even while taking her class she constantly expressed how angering it was that I was really good at tests and writing but I never did my homework...I don't want a negative letter of rec...

Also my old APUSH teacher (junior year). She awarded me with the "most improved" at the end of the year. I got a D first semester than a B second. I sent her an email over the summer thanking her and she sent me an email back giving me a her favorite quote and telling me to do my best (I'm pretty sure she requested me to be in her capstone...) she seems pretty happy to help me with my college stuff....I just don't know what positive things she could write that would out weigh the negative stuff.

Definitely avoid your language teacher. She’ll say that you can’t follow directions or discipline yourself to complete assignments. Colleges have requirements. Why would they admit someone who just doesn’t care to meet them?

If your problem with the history teacher is similar, look for a school that doesn’t require letters of recommendation. An open-door community college that just wants a diploma or GED might be the best place to start. Then, if you can prove you’re ready to do homework, you can apply to transfer.

I didn’t sat anything about not following directions I just didn’t do some of the stupid stuff but I always understood everything. She knew/knows I’m really smart.

The above suggestion is ridiculous… Don’t go to community college just because you don’t know from whom to get a recommendation. Get one from each teacher, if you need two. I’m in your position as well… Sort of. I have one teacher who’s my favorite teacher and I was great in his classes (APUSH & AP Gov)… Done. But for the other, I either have to go back to a freshman teacher, or as my AP Euro teacher, who doesn’t like me, though I made an A in her class… and I made a 3 on the exam when I had a brainfart and wrote that Catherine the Great ruled England.

But just get a recommendation from both of them, if your writing is really good, then the whole no homework thing shouldn’t matter.

What the ****?

Suggesting community college because he finds it hard to find a teacher to get recommendations from?

Please take me away from this world.

So in your whole high school career you only have two teachers to choose from???

The other thing is that you could ask her if she would be able to write you a “favorable” recommendation. No one wants to write a negative recommendation but no one wants to be vague in order to avoid lying either. So if you phrase your question correctly, she can just decline and you can move onto someone else. Or she will say OK, and just leave out the bad stuff or minimize it. A good writer can make a flaw seem like a good thing. She could say you know how to prioritize your time and always put forth your best effort for the most challenging assignments.

^I have the other teachers picked out, I just want one more. And okay that sounds like a good plan thank you.
