Would this essay raise ethical questions?

I want to write about an experience I had during my lab internship. A researcher and I were trying to give a rat acupuncture, but none of the rat holders were working (they were the wrong sizes).

I noticed that my water bottle was about the same size as the rat, so I created a rat holder using the water bottle. I made vents and everything. However, I don't know whether this was entirely "ethical," because it wasn't an approved rat holder.

I don't want to get on the wrong side of an admissions officer.

If you include a comment as to how your improvised rat holder was more humane than the approved one, I don’t think you’ll have a problem. The ethical issue isn’t about using approved equipment, it’s about showing compassion for the rat. Going through some extra effort to ensure the rat’s comfort would count in your favor.
