I blew my SAT Essay, big-time. It's horrible, I cried for 2 hours when I got my score.

Is it okay if I put in the Additional Info that I'm usually a very good writer, it's just that I was so nervous on the Nov 5 SAT that I almost threw up? I can produce outstanding work as long as I'm not being forced to do it in 25 minutes.

I'm thinking that they might see it as making excuses, and it might even label me as a neurotic. The rest of my app already screams "good writer", but it might not be enough to offset my disastrous SAT.

I'm taking the SAT again this month, though, just to do better. I know it might not reach them in time, but it can't hurt.

Well, your main app essay is itself a writing sample, so that should show what you usually do. Also, if you have good grades/scores in English classes, APs, SAT V, etc., that should outweigh it (my son was in that position, and it did.) Good luck!

one essay score is not going to kill your application. lets look at my case. my last year's math mark was a low B. now the rest of my math record contricted this mark, I had 98+ for all math class before last year; awards and honors for many math competitions; 800 on both SAT I and iic; good score on both amc and aime. while these things don't excuse the low B last year, it does show that I'm good at math even though I had a low B last year. I believe a low B in a whole year's math course is more serious than one essay written in 25 mins.

point is, you don't need to explain your SAT writing score, they'll see if it fits with the rest of you application or not.if you are a strong writer, it'll show.
