I do alot of musical theatre. I've been cast in every drama production at my school and I have been doing alot of musical theatre outside of school since middle school. Would this be a hook for schools even though I don't want to major in theatre or drama??

I would say that it would qualify as a very good extracurricular but not a hook. Hooks tend to be a little more selective such as first-generation to attend college, under represented minority, or legacy.

Poster above is correct.

Also, you don’t have to be majoring in theater for them to consider your extracurricular. Anything that you have devoted extensive time and energy and heart to, they will consider very highly. Pretty much my entire application (ECs, essays, awards, etc.) were music, and I am a science major.

yer definition of hook is incorrect :o, as golf said, hook’s are more URM, legacy etc related.

and as for your question as to whether it will look good, it will demonstrate your commitment as well as your talent in that field i suppose,

however since you’re not planning to major in it, it’ll be looked at as a dedicated extra-curricular and that’ll be about it? :S

Well just because you’re not planning to major in the field of the EC doesn’t mean it doesn’t help. After all, the point is to make a diverse class of people who have many different interests regardless of whether or not they want to make it their career. For example, playing a sport (especially if you’re good at it) usually helps a lot but most applicants to Yale or other colleges won’t become athletes in the future, not even recruits.
