Hey everyone. I have recently been elected as the Treasurer for the National Honor Society at my school. I was thinking about college applications I would have to start at the end of the summer (I’m a junior right now). Would this role in NHS look good to colleges? I was just curious.
Thank you in advance for replying
Yes, leadership positions like this one signal to colleges that you are capable of handling responsibility.
What colleges are you looking at? The answer to your question depends on that.
@bssurly I have a few schools I’m looking at but the one I’m mostly worried about is New York University.
It’s kind of selective and I think I have a good chance with my GPA and possibly my SAT/ACT score once I bring it up. I know NYU looks for students that are also active with ECs and after I ran for the spot, I figured I could also put it in my applications.
mention it’s elected and not appointed, colleges give preference to positions where you were voted in.
@theawakenedmoon Absolutely helps. And yes, as the above poster stated mention it’s an elected position.
Mention it’s elective.
However universities and LACs in the Top 40 typically expect more.
So, yes it helps, but they remain reaches even with strong test scores, curriculum rigor, and GPA.
The role would look good but you should show more leadership as well. Don’t stop there.
Thanks everyone for the replies! I will definitely remember all of these things while applying
